Dermal fillers are a gel containing hylaronic acid. They are injected within or deep to the skin to "fill out" wrinkles or to replace lost volume.

Dermal fillers can be used almost anywhere on the face. A tailored treatment plan will be created for each client depending on their areas of concern.

The treatment involves small injections at the areas of hylaronic acid loss to replenish this lost volume and smooth wrinkles. Certain areas can be more uncomfortable than others during the injections. Local anaesthetic can be used to minimise any discomfort should the client wish. The treatment session lasts 15-20 mins and results are seen immediately.

Localised bruising and swelling are the most common side effects, but subside after a few days and are helped by arnica. More uncommon risks include lumpiness, vascular occlusion, tissue necrosis (death), delayed hypersensitivity, nodules and allergic reaction.

The results are seen immediately. There is always some swelling after treatment, so expect the area will subside over 24-48 hrs.

The results are variable depending on the type of filler used, where it is used and on the individual. Most last between 6 and 12 months. Some can last up to 18 months

Dermal fillers are a great injectable for facial rejuvenation, but also to enhance certain features. Quite often a combination of botox and fillers can give a fantastic result.
